Riding Islandic horses
Kuusamo, Finland
A landscape of brightly-coloured autumn leaves. The crunch of snow under small hooves. The feeling of riding at a smooth tölt with the northern lights blazing across the velvet sky. The speedy gallop on a path lined with the pale green leaves of spring. The shimmer of the bright blue lake ahead. Off-road riding on diverse trails and paths. Reindeer are a familiar sight, but on horseback you may come across other wildlife such as hares, foxes, moose or owls. Riding out on Icelandic horses is an experience to be remembered for everyone.
Our lakeside stables provides horse-related services only a 10-minute drive away from Kuusamo town centre. Our 10 Icelandic horses are suitable for gentle rides with first-timers as well as for more speedy off-road rides with experienced riders. Our riding trails are mainly used by horses and riders only, which makes them safe and traffic-free.
The handsome log buildings on our yard have received admiration and praise. The riding arena and stable was completed in 2010, with the stable and field shelter for the Icelandics a few years later. Our two Lappish huts can cater for up to 100 people at the time. Is there anything better than a sausage grilled on open fire after a few hours’ ride in below-zero temperature!
Welcome to Nurminiemi Riding Stables for great and unforgettable experiences with our Icelandic horses!
Come and enjoy riding Icelandic horses in wooded lake landscapes. Icelandic horses are easy to handle and suitable for beginners and experienced riders alike. They follow the leading horse at all gaits. Rides are organised every day, and also in the evenings when we are wearing headlamps, looking out for the northern lights! The group always rides in line behind the instructor and her horse.
